If you’re considering installing underfloor heating in your home or looking at a new carpet to pair with your underfloor heating, it’s important to know if the two are compatible. At Cormar, we help guide our customers by pre-testing all our carpets and giving them a tog value rating to make sure they are compatible with underfloor heating systems.
According to research from the Underfloor Heating Manufacturers Association (UHMA) and advice from The Carpet Foundation, you should be looking for a combined tog rating of less than 2.5 for your carpet and underlay for underfloor systems to operate efficiently.
A ‘real’ thermal insulation figure of 2.5 tog is now considered a realistic maximum limit for carpet and underlay combined. So, rest assured that your carpet can be used over underfloor heating systems and will not impair the performance of either. We do, however, recommend that underlays with tog values of less than 1.3tog are used.
Take a look at our table below for our full list of ranges and the tog rating they hold.
