How to Create the Perfect Guest Bedroom

The guest bedroom is often the last room to get a makeover.  And with Christmas looming, now’s the time to get it in tip top shape for greeting visitors.

Preparing for and hosting family and friends can be a lovely experience – for them and you – but not if the room they’ll be sleeping in is cluttered, tired looking and cold.

A guest bedroom should be warm, welcoming and inviting. If yours is looking past its best now’s the time to think about sprucing it up.

Because bedroom carpets do not receive such regular use, there’s an opportunity to play around with different fibres and textures. Carpets with more luxurious qualities are ideal in this environment and there’s nothing more comforting than a soft, luxurious carpet for feet to sink into in the morning! When shopping around and choosing which carpet to go for, it's a great idea to order some samples and compare different styles.

Introduce a little hotel chic with some sumptuous new bedding, plush curtains and fresh towels. Make sure they are sleeping on a comfy bed too, not an old creaky mattress!

Keep the room classic and simple. Neutral carpet tones work well and accentuate a feeling of space and brightness plus it leaves you with scope to play around with colours in paint and furnishings. A feature wall in a moody dark shade such as charcoal grey or inky blue creates a truly sumptuous look.

The bedroom should also be free of personal clutter. No one wants to get into bed with a photo of Great Aunt Mary peering down from the chest of drawers. Equally guests come with luggage so they need space to put down a suitcase and store their clothes.

Think about what you would like in a bedroom if you were visiting and you’ll be on your way to creating that perfect guest room.
