The UK Sustainable Flooring Alliance

Most of you will know Cormar are big supporters of the UK Sustainable Flooring Alliance (UKSFA), formerly Carpet Recycling UK.

This is an organisation that was set up initially in 2008 under the name 'Carpet Recycling UK', with the intention of diverting over 709,000 tonnes of carpet waste created every year (the equivalent to 43,846 football pitches) - from landfill to recycling or energy recovery.

Back in 2007, only 2% of carpet waste created was recycled. In 2016 that figure had increased to 35% and in 2022, the diversion rate was 73%.

The manufacturers and distributers that support UKSFA also continue to grow, with retailers and flooring contractor members also increasing, as more flooring companies recognise the cost savings and sustainability impact on their businesses.

Awareness and interest in recycling carpet waste continues to grow, with increased enquiries over the phone, online and at events. In addition, an increasing social media presence has also enhanced visibility.

All in all, an encouraging picture for the industry and this clearly shows that the focus directed by UKSFA and its associate members, is having a positive effect.
