A Proud History
Founded in 1956 by Neville Cormack, Cormar began after he invested in two tufted carpet machines at a time when the technology was still in its infancy. Operating from Nunn Hills Mill in Lancashire, the business quickly outgrew its first premises and moved to Brookhouse Mill in 1959, where it remains today.
As demand for tufted carpet grew throughout the 1960s and 70s, Cormar expanded its warehousing and established its own transport fleet, which now exceeds 70 company-owned vehicles. Continued investment in distribution led to the opening of a 130,000 sq ft warehouse in Hemel Hempstead in 2017, strengthening service across the South of England.
Today, Cormar is the UK's largest single independent carpet manufacturer, employing over 400 people across its manufacturing and distribution sites, supported by a nationwide sales team.
Family Values and People
Cormar's success has been built on its family business ethos and the dedication of its employees. Founder Neville Cormack led the business for over 50 years before being joined by his son David in 1987. The company has also benefited from experienced external leadership, including former Managing Director David Judge and current CEO Paul Barratt, who joined in 2024.
The family remains closely involved, with Helen Polito serving as Chairman and Edward Polito joining as Commercial Director in 2023.
