Operative (Tufting)

Reports to: Operational Supervisor

Hours per week: 40 hours per week on a fortnightly rotating day shift
2.00pm - 10.00pm Sunday to Thursday
6.00am - 2.00pm Monday to Friday
Plus reasonable overtime as required

Job Purpose

As a Tufting Operative, you will help to keep Cormar’s tufting operation running efficiently and safely. You will support production by preparing yarn, creeling, splicing, and carrying out other tasks as directed. Working as part of the manufacturing team, you will maintain high standards of quality, safety, and housekeeping while contributing to the smooth running of the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out yarn creeling, splicing, and other tufting-related duties as directed.
  • Operate basic machinery such as yarn winding and stripping machines, floor cleaners, and balers.
  • Work to agreed targets for performance and completion times.
  • Maintain high standards of product quality throughout each shift.
  • Support team members and cover other duties when required.
  • Keep work areas clean and tidy, following housekeeping standards.
  • Follow all site and department safety rules and report any hazards or concerns.
  • Support recycling and waste management processes as required.
  • Contribute to production improvement projects and initiatives.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing operations and how they support production.
  • Ability to work accurately and meet deadlines.
  • Physically capable of performing manual tasks, including lifting, bending, twisting, and climbing steps.
  • Flexible and willing to take on a range of production and support duties.
  • Positive attitude with a focus on quality, teamwork, and safety.
