New Carpet – Now to Look After It!

To get the best from your brand new carpet, you should care for it properly from day one!

The right care and upkeep not only keeps carpets looking their best but extends their lifespan too. Carpets aren’t difficult to care for, but it does pay be aware of a few useful tips.

  • Firstly, make sure your carpet fitter hands you your guarantee and care leaflet. Complete it online first of all. (All of our carpets come with comprehensive guarantees that cover stain and wear to give you added reassurance.)
  • Vacuum your new carpet regularly at least two or three times a week.
  • Invest in a large, strong doormat that will reduce dirt from outside being spread around the house.
  • Leave shoes at the door. Removing shoes stops dirt spreading and decreases wear on carpet fibres.
How to Vacuum a Soft Carpet
  • Loop pile should be vacuumed with a cylinder cleaner using the suction head only, whereas cut pile carpets should be vacuumed with an upright cleaner with beater bar and brush.
  • Shedding/fluffing is usual for a new carpet. The more you vacuum, the sooner this will stop.
  • It’s not unusual to smell a slight odour after a new carpet is fitted. This is usually caused by the carpet, the underlay or any adhesives which have been used. Ventilate the room by opening windows and doors and you will find the odour disappears after a few days.
  • Remember carpets do wear unevenly due to the footfall traffic. Use rugs in if you want to minimise this effect in certain areas.
