UK Carpet Manufacturer Driver Qualifies for Euro Fork Lift Championship
A process operator from Cormar Carpets has qualified for an international fork lift truck competition in Germany, after securing second place in a national challenge organised by fork lift truck manufacturer, Linde Sterling.
Runner up Colin Booth, 33, from Radcliffe, will be making his debut in the 2010 Stapler Cup Competition for the Linde Sterling English team. They will be up against eight other European teams, all made up of the country’s three best fork lift drivers, and will compete in a series of driving tests.
“I am really delighted to be able to represent England and participate in the international competition and I am hoping we win!” says Colin, who has been driving fork lifts for the last 7 years and joined Cormar four years ago.
Colin was able to perfect his fork lift skills through his day to day role at Cormar by transporting wool carpet and polypropylene carpet within the companys Ramsbottom site, Holme Mill.
Colin went on to say “I won the first heat of the regional competition and then went forward to the national final. The Linde Sterling training centre, in Westhoughton, was transformed into a complex maze of disciplines which included steering, stacking, de-stacking, precision and careful transportation, and finally time trails. And I came second.”
Note: The national ‘Linde Sterling Challenge’ is an annual event held from July to November. It not only identifies operators who possess supreme skills and knowledge, but encourages them to develop and achieve much higher standards of professional safety and efficiency.
With visitor numbers up by over 9% from last year, the Cormar Carpets stand was bustling with retailers keen to view the latest carpet collections.
For the fourth time in succession, Cormar Carpets has been voted Best Carpet Manufacturer by readers of the trade publication Interiors Monthly.
Cormar Carpets has won the ‘Longstanding Support Award’ from Carpet Recycling UK for their strong commitment to carpet recycling and sustainability.
A Team from Cormar Carpets, PPS Commercials, DAF Trucks and CVL Ltd has completed “The Way of the Roses” bike ride, raising over £1200 for the Booth Centre charity in Manchester.
