Cormar Scafell Pike

A Team from Cormar Carpets Holme Mill has climbed Scafell Pike in the Lake District, to raise £2,014 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Thirteen employees, from the UK’s leading carpet manufacturer in Lancashire, Cormar Carpets, took on the challenge of climbing Scafell Pike - England’s highest peak, to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Setting off from Wasdale Head on the western side of the Lake District, the team, principally from Cormar’s Tufting Production site in Ramsbottom, completed the trip within six hours.  One of the team was amputee Phil Higgs, who was also attempting the climb, for the first time. He received lots of encouragement and respect on the way up from other climbers as well as rapturous applause when he finally stood with his son on the summit. Though in spite of the climb being during the summer, the views from the top were minimal due to low cloud!

Team Leader Les Holliday who led the expedition commented, “Everyone enjoyed the day, whilst at the same time raising money for a fantastic cause - one that resonates with so many people. I would like to say a sincere thank you to the Cormar charity committee for their support and all our sponsors’ it is greatly appreciated.”

Money raised by the Cormar Carpets team, will now go towards helping to fund the practical, emotional, medical and financial support provided by the charity to people affected by cancer.

The Team included Les Holliday, Phil Higgs SNR, Phil Higgs JNR, David Cormack, Tony Wojciechowski, Jack Brearley, Ryan Schofield, Danny Harrison, Jan Durcek, Slava Kozmova, Alan Blackley, John Hood and Sam Hall.
