Title: Head of Logistics
Reports to: Operations Director
Based at: TBC
Hours per week: 37.5 hours
Job Purpose:
The Head of Logistics is responsible for overseeing the entire logistics and supply chain operations. This role ensures the efficient and cost-effective movement, storage, and distribution of raw materials and finished products from suppliers to customers. The Head of Logistics will lead a team of logistics professionals, develop and implement strategic initiatives, and work closely with manufacturing, procurement, and sales departments to optimise supply chain processes and meet business objectives.
The role requires regular UK travel which may be at short notice, and a significant amount of working time away from the normal place of work. Certain operational activities may necessitate working outside of normal working hours and overnight stays.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement logistics strategies that align with company goals.
- Design and execute supply chain processes to optimise the flow of goods, reduce costs, and improve service levels.
Operations Management:
- Oversee day-to-day logistics operations, including warehousing, transportation, inventory management, and order fulfilment.
- Ensure the timely delivery of raw materials to manufacturing sites and finished goods to customers.
- Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers and oversee their performance to ensure service levels are met.
- Manage the relationship with the fleet maintenance provider to ensure vehicle reliability, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of logistics professionals.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and compliance within the logistics team.
- Set performance goals and conduct regular reviews to ensure team accountability and growth.
Cost Management:
- Develop and manage the logistics budget, ensuring cost efficiency while maintaining high service standards.
- Identify opportunities to reduce logistics costs through process improvements, technology implementation, and vendor negotiations.
Inventory Management:
- Ensure optimal inventory levels to meet production schedules and customer demand without overstocking.
- Implement inventory control measures to minimize waste and obsolescence.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all logistics activities comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Oversee the implementation of safety programs to protect employees, products, and assets.
- Ensure compliance with CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) requirements for all relevant logistics operations and personnel.
Technology and Innovation:
- Identify and implement technology solutions to enhance logistics efficiency, such as Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) integration.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and innovations to keep the company's logistics operations competitive.
Customer Service:
- Collaborate with the sales and customer service teams to ensure that customer delivery expectations are met or exceeded.
- Resolve any logistics-related issues that may impact customer satisfaction.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for logistics operations, such as on-time delivery, inventory turnover, and transportation costs.
- Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on logistics performance, challenges, and opportunities.
Qualifications:
Education:
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) certification is required.
- A degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field is desirable
- A master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g. Six Sigma) is desirable
Experience:
- Experience in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field, with experience in a leadership role.
- Experience in the manufacturing sector, particularly in the flooring industry, is highly desirable.

- Proficiency in logistics software and ERP systems.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Requirements:
- Full, clean driving licence
- Ability to travel to various UK wide company locations, warehouses, and supplier sites as needed and at short notice, with a significant portion of time spent away from the usual place of work, as well as working outside of normal hours, with overnight stays to meet operational demands.
- Occasionally required to lift and move materials.
